SUMMARY:Monthly Meeting – October 2019
DESCRIPTION:Print Theme: Open \n\n\n\n\n\nPlease submit up to two images max for the Print competition by recording image names into a competition log to be provided by IPS at the meeting\, in accordance with IPS Competition Rules (including print size and matting guidelines). \nSubmission deadline: Day of the competition\, by 6:15pm (before the speaker’s presentation). You can also pre-register your images using this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/R79T5C2 \nAll Print images need to be clearly labeled with the photographer’s name\, image name\, and competition class (A or B). \nImages that do not adhere to the competition rules\, are submitted late\, and/or are not matted and labeled properly will be automatically disqualified. \nGuest Speaker/Judge: Katie Jett Walls \nKatie Jett Walls is no stranger to taking on big projects. From launching her full time family photography business in 2011 (after several years part time while working non-profit fundraising)\, to pursuing long-term documentary projects in Puerto Rico\, Queens NY and the Black Belt region of the South\, to publishing an online magazine for emerging documentary storytelling. A self-taught photographer\, Katie has invested in several challenging mentorships in both family and documentary photography (in fact\, she photographs most of her family work as “Day in the Life”\, documentary-style sessions)\, most recently completing the prestigious Missouri Photo Workshop hosted by the University of Missouri School of Photojournalism. Being raised in a sheltered religious home\, Katie has found photography to be her own means of exploring aspects of the world she didn’t get to know growing up\, finding her way to a better understanding of humanity\, community and connection. \nKatie is a 13-year resident of the District of Columbia\, a recovering improviser\, an avid reader of moody British police procedurals\, and drinker of much coffee. She and her husband and son love camping and playing pinball at Lyman’s on 14th Street. \nFor more: https://www.katiejettwallsphotography.com/aboutcv-page \n \nBlack Belt Project
